Department collects donations from staff for charities

This year the Department of Computer Science have been collecting donations from staff for two local charities: Sheffield S6 foodbank and Mission Christmas cash for kids. The two charities were chosen by Georgia-Jay Sapsford and Jo Lawrence who both work in the professional services support-staff team.

Georgia said "I think it is really important to give back to our local community and this is why we chose to collect for both the S6 foodbank and Mission Christmas. It has been very heartwarming to see the amount of donations from people around the department - our reception area was practically overflowing!"

The S6 foodbank (https://sheffields6.foodbank.org.uk/about/) is part of the Trussell Trust network which supports communities and churches to open foodbanks. The S6 foodbank states on their website that they “don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.”

Mission Christmas aims to help children living in poverty. They are collecting gifts which be given to disadvantaged children in the local area to make sure they have something to open on Christmas day https://planetradio.co.uk/hallam/charity/events/mission-christmas-south-yorkshire/
