Events and open days
One of the best ways to get a feel for the Department for Lifelong Learning and hear answers to any questions you may have is by talking to us face-to-face. We'd love to meet you at one of our events, open days, taster workshops or other events we're attending.
Rediscover Your Potential is a free Open Evening event for adults thinking about University Study. There will be the opportunity to meet current mature students, gain information about our full and part time courses, take part in taster sessions and activities and gain valuable information on student finance, support and how to apply for University.
Taking place on Wednesday 28th November 5pm - 8pm.
Discover is a FREE award winning short course, designed to inspire adults who haven’t been to university to progress with their learning. It focuses on themes that link into the subjects offered by the Department for Lifelong Learning. The course runs one morning per week for 6 weeks.
Visit the Discover course pages to find out more and register your interest in the next course.
25th October 2018
DLL Tutors Dr Anthony Warde and Dr David Vessey will introduce the latest in the 'Philosophy at The Showroom' film series: Planet of the Apes.
Since it first appeared on screens in 1968, Planet of the Apes has provided an oft replayed (and rebooted) vision of a post-apocalyptic future. As we consider, however, the film’s unique depiction of future catastrophe is also an expression of longstanding anxieties regarding humanity’s past, which were rendered more acute by Darwin’s On the Origin of Species. By enacting ideas of ‘degeneration’ or ‘devolution’, the film challenges some of humanity’s most cherished and consoling beliefs, such as unerring technological and cultural ‘Progress’, our unique experience of consciousness and our privileged position apart from (rather than as a part of) Nature.
This is a public event with tickets available from The Showroom Cinema box office.
The University also runs a series of Open Days for anyone interested in attending the University. To book a place, simply follow the link to the registration form. Our Mature Student Ambassadors are available at every Open Day on the mature student stall in The Octagon. You can also book onto subject talks within departments, speak to University support staff, and visit the University on a campus tour. See below for further details.
