The PT distance learning route was an ideal option for me as there is flexibility to manage study around work commitments and childcare at my own pace

It is not an overstatement to claim this course has transformed my professional life. Throughout my 15 years of experience in the field as teacher, teaching assistant and childminder, it has become increasingly challenging to negotiate tensions between pedagogical beliefs and external pressures. This course is enabling me to reflect on past experience, inform my current practice and develop a deeper understanding of the complexities of Early Childhood Education (and care) within local contexts against a global backdrop.
To be able to learn, discuss and reflect on contemporary issues with excellent School of Education staff and International students is a privilege and sustains me as I return to face these challenges back in the field. I really valued the face-to-face taught content through the study school weekends in Sheffield, as these supported us as students to become a community of learners
The part-time distance learning route was an ideal option for me as there is flexibility to manage study around work commitments and childcare at my own pace. However, I would recommend students invest as much time as they can afford in order to access as many of the diverse readings and tasks as possible. The course is packed to the brim with interesting and thought-provoking content.
I am currently working as a teaching assistant in a nursery class in the north-east of England on the cusp of planning my dissertation. As a first generation student, an MA felt previously unattainable. Yet here I am, now pondering the EdD programme! I am not entirely sure what the future holds for me after the MA, but I know I am not ready to end my ECE journey yet.
