The skills and knowledge I developed on the Digital Literacies, Culture and Education course have been invaluable to my teacher training year so far
After completing my undergraduate degree in English Language and Linguistics, I was eager to complete a masters degree but I wasn’t certain on the subject. I was intrigued by the Digital Literacies, Culture and Education MA, and I have not been disappointed.
The course content is broad enough for you to gain a plethora of knowledge on education and technology, whilst also developing specialist foci through assessment. For example, the course looks broadly at creativity, assessment, and current school approaches to technology in the classroom. However, the course encourages a narrower focus through assessment; I completed assessment focusing on children with disabilities' use of technology to participate in research, the use of TikTok in the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as conducting my own research into children’s use of VR in storytelling.
I am now completing my PGCE as a secondary English teacher, to practically apply the digital literacies skills I developed through the MA. The skills and knowledge I developed on the Digital Literacies, Culture and Education course have been invaluable to my teacher training year so far.
Throughout my education there have been very few teachers like Becky (Programme Director): supportive, innovative, and above all, passionate about education. Becky naturally creates positivity in her classrooms (even online!) and is always approachable and engaging. As a student who is soon to begin my teacher training, I hope I can support and engage my future students as Becky has with me.
