Sheffield Building Image Dataset

This web page hosts the Sheffield Building (SB) Image Dataset as presented in the following publication:

Jing Li and Nigel M. Allinson, Dimensionality Reduction-Based Building Recognition, in Proceedings of the Ninth IASTED International Conference on Visualization, Imaging and Image Processing, Cambridge (UK), July 13 – 15, 2009

This dataset consists of over 3,000 low-resolution images of forty different buildings – typically between 70 and 120 images per building. The images are taken from different viewpoints under widely different lighting conditions. They are intended to represent the quality and variety of images obtained by hand-held mobile devices for a range of weather and time-of-day conditions. Typical images are presented below.

Conditions of Usage

The SB Image Dataset is intended for research purposes only and as such should not be used commercially.

In addition, acknowledgement must be made to the above publication when this dataset is used in any published academic and research report. We would also be very grateful if you could inform us of any such publication.

The SB Image Dataset

This dataset consists of 3,192 jpeg images at 160 x 120 resolution of forty buildings in Sheffield. They are chosen for their variety form and all buildings appear in Google StreetView. Building 1 is the Sir Frederick Mappin Building, Mappin Street, Sheffield – see Google images below.

Higher resolution images are available as are detailed co-ordinates of all buildings.
