Profile

I received my B.Sc. in Space Physics in 1996, L.L.B. in Intellectual Property Law in 1997, both from Peking University, China, M.Phil. from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Hong Kong, in 2001, and Ph.D. in 2003 from the School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton, UK. Then I worked as a postdoc in the same group and later in the Communications and Signal Processing Group, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Imperial College London. In September 2005, I joined the University of Sheffield, UK, as a Lecturer and now I am a Senior Lecturer. My research interests are mainly in sensor array signal processing, blind signal processing, multirate signal processing and their various applications such as wireless communications, sonar, radar, satellite navigation, and speech enhancement, etc.

I have published one research monograph, three book chapters, 104 journal papers and 135 conference papers. In particular, the research monograph titled “Wideband Beamforming: Concepts and Techniques”, published by John Wiley & Sons in 2010, is the very first book focused on wideband beamforming and more than 600 hard copies have been sold. I am a senior member of IEEE, an Associate Editor for two journals “IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing”, and “IEEE Access”, an editorial board member for the journal “Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering”, an elected member of the Digital Signal Processing Technical Committee (DSPTC) of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society and the Sensor Array and Multichannel Technical Committee (SAMTC) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy of the UK. I received the “Best Paper Award” for the paper “Improving SSVEP-BCI Performance Using Pre-Trial Normalization Methods” at the IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications (CogInfoCom) in 2017, the “Best Paper Award” for the paper “Reduced Complexity MIMO Receiver with Real-Valued Beamforming”, at the 15th IEEE International Conference on Computer and Information Technology in 2015, and the “Excellent Paper Award” for the paper “Robust DOA Estimation for a MIMO Array Using Two Calibrated Transmit Sensors”, at the IET International Radar Conference in 2013.

I am a General Co-Chair for the 2018 IEEE Sensor Array and Multi-Channel Signal Processing Workshop, Sheffield, UK, July 2018 (www.sam2018.org).
