Headstart summer school resources
During the summer we delivered an online summer school in partnership with Headstart to Y12 pupils interested in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) across a two week period. The webinars, mini lectures and lab sessions were designed to give a taste of the breadth of the field of EEE.
Videos from the summer school
We have collated the videos of the various mini lectures and lab sessions from the summer school below for you to access and watch whenever is convenient for you. If you have any questions about the videos please contact the Department and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
The summer school was started by Professor Dan Gladwin who had been on a Headstart summer school before he made his choice about university and which course to study.
Professor Martin Foster discussed how the world is being led by the electrical revolution.
Professor John David delivered a mini lecture on how we can harness the power of solar energy and deliver clean electricity to the world.
Dr Adam Funnell from The Diamond where all the remote labs were delivered from gave an introduction to Arduino and some of the really exciting projects it can do.
Professor Merlyne de Souza presented a mini-lecture on the evolution of the transistor which is contained in virtually every electronic device we use.
Dr Stephen Henthorn delivered a mini-lecture on modulation which is key to achieving 5G and beyond.
Dr Thomas Walther presented a mini-lecture on the field of Tomography which is the imaging in three dimensions at the atomic scale which allows the investigation of nano structures.
Professor Alan Tennant delivered a mini-lecture on stealth/ low observable engineering which incorporates techniques to make an object less detectable by sensors.
