Walking

Walking

Why walk to work and around campus?

Most University of Sheffield buildings are within short walking distance of each other and the city centre is on the doorstep.

Walking is free, you donĀ“t need any specialist equipment and it's good for you. Walking can:

  • Reduce risk of developing heart disease and stroke.
  • Help reduce stress.
  • Help you control your weight.
  • Maintain good mental health.

The current recommendation for physical activity is about 30 minutes a day of moderate activity, such as brisk walking. You should aim for this, but you don't have to do them all in one go.

The University's Juice programme for staff has many activities which encourage you to be active, including a Walking Group. Access this through MUSE or click here to find out more.
