Western Bank library

Project overview

Inside of Western Bank libraryWe are working to improve the heating and cooling system, as well as the overall air quality, in Western Bank Library. This will provide a more comfortable environment for students and staff.

Opened in 1959, this Grade II* listed building is very popular with students and staff. With warmer summers in recent years and more students using the facilities, overheating has been a problem.

The project will start by removing the current ventilation plant and replace this with a new and increased capacity system. Once the refurbishment is finished, the new system will be more sustainable and provide a cooler study environment in the summer months.

The building will be closed until Monday 14 October 2019. Study spaces are available in the Information Commons, The Diamond and the Health Sciences Library.

A Library information and advisory service will be available from the reception area in Western Bank Library (9am-5pm, Monday - Friday) helping users to continue to gain access to all materials and collections within the building, as well as being able to pick up requested items.
