Bulky waste, furniture and special collections
Items that are too large to be disposed of in a commercial wheelie bin are classed as bulky waste. Organise collections via the EFM Self Service system, accessible via MUSE.
Where possible surplus furniture should be reused within the organisation. Broken items of furniture, however, are recycled.
The Recycling Team will collect small volumes of broken furniture for recycling. Book a collection via EFM Self Service (on MUSE) or calling Estates Help Desk (extension 29000).
However, if the furniture you have is surplus to your requirements and in good condition, or if there is significant quantity of furniture for reuse and recycling, then you should contact the Project Coordinator in Estates Development on 29122, who will assess the items and make the necessary arrangement for their reuse or recovery.
Please do not leave items of unwanted furniture in bin stores, by skips or anywhere else around the campus. It damages the furniture and makes it unusable.
Metal and wood recycling
The Recycling Team will collect clean metal drums, wooden pallets, wooden packaging and other wooden items for recycling. Book a collection via EFM Self Service (on MUSE) or calling Estates Help Desk (extension 29000).
Please do not leave items of unwanted furniture in bin stores, by skips or anywhere else around the campus – the Recycling Team will collect the items directly from you, no matter where you are based.
Skips and clear-outs
For larger volumes of waste EFM's Facilities Manager in your area can provide a skip and can often provide some assistance with the removal of the items, however this must be booked at least seven days in advance. Departments will only be recharged if there is a significant volume of waste to be disposed of.
Please ring the Environment Officer on 29083 to discuss your requirements.
