Scholarships for Asylum Seekers

Asylum Seeker ScholarshipsWe are now accepting applications for our scholarships.

We are pleased to offer six scholarships for those who have sought refuge in the UK. There are 2 different types of English language courses and the scholarships cover the cost of tuition fees. The scholarships are available for students who are 18+ and who meet certain criteria.

To be considered for the scholarship you must:

  • be 18+ years of age and live in Sheffield
  • have discretionary or limited leave to remain in the UK, be a dependant or partner of someone with discretionary or limited leave to remain or you or your parent/guardian or partner have submitted an asylum or human rights application and not yet received a decision from the Home Office on that application
  • have applied for asylum in the UK, and before you have applied for a place on an ELTC course
  • be unable to access mainstream funding, for example student finance or local authority grants
  • currently attend a school, college, community or voluntary group who will provide a reference in support of your application
  • provide all the documentation you have received from the Home Office in relation to your asylum claim.

English language courses

English Language Support (ELS) - there are a limited number of scholarship places available for our English Language Support classes which are held in Term 1, from week beginning 9th October 2017 – 10th November 2017 and Term 2 from 12th February 2018 - 16th March 2018. You can choose a class of 1 and a half hours each per week. Subject areas are: General English, Pronunciation and Grammar.   • You must have an intermediate to upper intermediate level of English (no beginners)
  • There will be a placement test at the start of the course

Part-time General English - there are limited scholarship places available for our General English course in Term 2 & Term 3. The two students given places in Term 2 will be expected to continue in Term 3. In Term 2 classes are held from 15th January 2018 to 24th March 2018. The classes are 2 hours each on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday – a total of 4 hours a week. Term 3 is also 4 hours a week for 8 weeks. The term dates are 16th April to 9th June 2018.
