Partners English classes

The English Language Teaching Centre, in co-operation with the University's Students' Union, provides free English language instruction twice a week for the international partners of fully-registered degree level University of Sheffield students.

There are beginners, pre-intermediate, intermediate and advanced classes for women and one mixed ability class for men. The classes are friendly and relaxed, with an emphasis on improving spoken English and are taught by qualified teachers, assisted by student volunteers. The one and a half hour classes are held on Monday and Friday mornings, 09:30am - 11:00am, throughout both semesters.

A free crèche for children aged between 1 year and 5 years is also provided and run by qualified staff (subject to availability). We regret that children under 1 year cannot be accommodated, in accordance with national legislation. Please note that the creche is usually full, with a waiting list, very early in semester 1.

Students can register for the classes throughout both semesters at 11.15am on Monday mornings in the Octagon Centre Council Chamber. Please bring a completed application form and your partner's blue Ucard. Application forms are available from the ELTC Reception at 78 Hoyle Street and the Student Advice Centre in the Students' Union. Please note spaces are subject to availability - you may be placed on a waiting list.
