My research is focused on the first seven plays by British contemporary playwright, Philip Ridley. I am exploring aspects of his work which are ignored in small body of academic work about his plays that currently exists.
I am considering the uncanny nature of the single room setting he puts on stage, how it acts as a double for the characters inhabiting that space and how it may also act as a double for the unseen but talked about exterior location of The East End of London.
I am also considering how nostalgia and memory, through ritual (particularly storytelling) inform the creation of identity.
Finally I am examining the imagery he creates through language and his concerns with the breakdown of language and thus the collapse of identity and society.

I am a member of WiP which is run by and for postgraduates in the School of English and enables them to give papers or provocations in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
I am also a member of the Centre for Archival Practices.

I am an Associate Lecturer at the University of Derby where I teach 4TH508 Theatre, Culture and Society.
also teach across a variety of Technical Theatre Courses including 4TT502 Introduction to Technical Theatre, 4TT504 Costume and Set Design and 6TT503 Professional Practice.
At the University of Sheffield I taught Lit180 Studying Theatre: A History of Dramatic Texts in Performance.
I am also a visiting tutor at Birmingham School of Acting where I teach on ACT6004 Professional Studies with final year stage management students.

I am a member of TaPRA (The Theatre Research Association), IFTR (International Federation for Theatre Research) and the STR (Society for Theatre Research).
I have presented papers at several conferences including the STR NRN’s Symposium (2014), the “What Happens Now” Conference, at the University of Lincoln (2014) and the IFTR World Congress at the University of Warwick (2014), TaPRA (2011) and the Contemporary British Theatre: Towards a New Canon Conference (2010).
