We have experts specialising in literature, language, linguistics, theatre, film and creative writing. We also have the largest group of researchers in the UK working on the intersection of language and literature. The interdisciplinary nature of the School of English provides unique opportunities for cross-departmental and collaborative research.

Once you know what you would like to study, it’s important to find a supervisor who is an expert in the area, and who can guide you through the three-year programme.

There are several different scholarship and funding options available to PhD candidates interested in studying at the School of English.
