Acclaimed fiddle player and Mercury Prize nominee kick off the new season at University of Sheffield Concerts

"Aidan O’Rourke and Kit Downes have recently played select shows with The Unthanks, before performing their own headline concerts in May 2019 and dates for New Music Biennial (featuring James Robertson) in collaboration with director Shilpa T-Hyland at London’s Southbank Centre and in Hull.

Aidan O’Rourke is a fiddler, composer, producer and curator. With his trio Lau, in multiple solo projects and in collaborations, he has pioneered a new sound in folk music and redefined traditional forms.

Kit Downes writes, performs and teaches music, as well as playing the piano, Hammond Organ, church organ and various other keyboards in a variety of different ensembles. Kit has received a Mercury Music Award nomination (in 2010), BBC Jazz Award, and a British Jazz Award for his own albums, and now tours with his own group ‘ENEMY’, Troyka, songwriter Josienne Clarke, Julian Arguelles' Quartet, Squarepusher, Thomas Stronen and Sylvain Darrifourcq – playing all over the world."
