Funding Award for 'Ten Wee Drams'
Dr Sarah Watts has been successful in a major funding bid to commission 'Ten Wee Drams' - a commission of ten miniatures for solo bass or contrabass clarinet. The work will be written by ten Scottish-based composers to celebrate the tenth anniversary in 2019 of music courses hosted by Sarah on the Isle of Raasay and are funded by Creative Scotland's Open Fund, The RVW Trust and the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain.
The premiere will be held between 8th - 12th April 2019 in the new Isle of Raasay Whisky Distillery and will be a free event for islanders and course participants. Each ‘Wee Dram’ will take its inspiration from the landscape, culture, heritage, legends or/and history of Raasay. The composers of the Wee Drams are: Alasdair Nicolson (Edinburgh and Orkney), Piers Hellawell (Isle of Harris), William Sweeney (Glasgow), Jane Stanley (Glasgow), Stuart MacRae (Glasgow), Iain Matheson (Edinburgh), Pete Stollery (Aberdeen), Oliver Searle (Glasgow). The final two Wee Drams will be by Sarah Watts (supported by Raasay Music Courses) and a current student who is studying composition in Scotland. Sarah is planing further performances including performing a selection in Tennessee, USA in July 2019 at the International Clarinet Festival.
