The faculty is keen to support new members of academic staff to help them in their new role.

The following opportunities are available:

Induction to the Faculty

  • Learning and Teaching
  • Research, Innovation and Knowledge transfer
  • Human Resources and Management
  • Developing your academic career at Sheffield

Fellowship support scheme

A formal fellowship support scheme has been established to help provide support and advice to help meet the requirements of  the various awarding bodies. The scheme can help at each stage of the application process:

  • A career mentor
  • Help refining project ideas
  • Guidance on how to prepare your written application
  • Regular cohort meetings to discuss ideas, share best practice and listen to guest speakers
  • Panel mock-interviews (with feedback)

Red Lining Week

Red Lining week is a Faculty-wide initiative which takes place in January and July and is designed to give academics dedicated time to write their research proposals.

It is co-ordinated by the Faculty of Engineering Research & Innovation Hub (FERIH) to provide a programme of events that includes presentations, workshops and advice clinics.

These are provided twice a year as part of Red Lining week and include

  • presentations by recent grant winners
  • top tips on how to apply
  • a mock panel event
