4 May: The Dovetail Trio

Presenting England's traditional songs with a bold and fresh approach, The Dovetail Trio explores familiar narratives with infectious energy and a passion for musical heritage. The new collaboration effortlessly combines the distinctive voices and acclaimed instrumental talents of BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Jamie Roberts, BBC Performing Arts Award winner Rosie Hood, and Newcastle Folk Degree alumnus Matt Quinn.

5 May: Crossing Languages, Crossing Cultures

Join us for a performative reading of multilingual literature by the renowned Luxembourgish author Guy Rewenig. Author and translator, Sandra Schmit of the Centre National de Littérature in Luxembourg, will lead the reading which is hosted by the Centre for Luxembourg Studies in collaboration with the Luxembourg Embassy of London. Following the reading, Dr Kristine Horner will lead the discussion on experiences of everyday life in a multilingual environment.

18 May: Fourteen Days in May

Watch this award winning documentary about the death penalty, hosted by Dr Katherine Ebury of the School of English and featuring an introduction by Dan Dolan, Head of Policy at human rights charity Reprieve. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Dan, and representatives from Amnesty and the School of English.

12 May: Bringing Wardsend Cemetery back to life

Wardsend Cemetery opened in 1857, near the banks of the River Don in Hillsborough. Unfortunately the cemetery has experienced years of neglect since its closure. Join our MA Public Humanities students as they bring the history of the cemetery back to life through an online virtual map and a relaunch of the Cemetery’s website.
