University Careers Service

The University Careers Service supports students and graduates up to three years after graduation. It provides services and support to help you:

  • Identify you career options
  • Develop and understand your skills
  • Find work experience, graduate jobs and opportunities for further study
  • Write CVs and applications, and prepare for interviews and assessment centres
  • Meet employers through recruitment fairs and other campus events
  • Talk to a Careers Adviser in confidence about any career issue

Sheffield Graduate Development Planning

Sheffield Graduate Development Planning (SGDP) is a scheme which helps you plan your personal development and keep a record of your achievements while at University. It is intended to cover three areas:

  • Academic development
  • Career development
  • Personal development

SGDP is a personal process in which you reflect on past achievements, think about future goals and decide on the strategies for achieving those goals, assisted by regular meetings with your Personal Tutor. Students and graduates can register with myVacancies, our opportunities database, which includes hundreds of graduate jobs, part-time jobs, vacation work, voluntary work, internships, placements, insight courses and open days.

Applications and Interviews

The Careers service provide information and advice on how to write CVs, covering letters and applications and prepare for psychometric tests, interviews and assessment centres. Their website includes a wide range of interactive media, online talks and DVDs.
