“I’ve lived in Mexico, Canada and the UK, and up until this day I always say that if I had the chance to go and live somewhere outside of Mexico it would be Sheffield.”
That picture brings a lot of memories to me, it was the day I took my Viva to get my PhD degree. From left to right: Dr. Nicolas Romero (me), Dr. Geoff Priestman, Dr. Moises Romero (my brother, who also got his PhD from the same department as myself).
The first day I went to the Department I met my supervisor face-to-face, Dr. Geoff Priestman. I was amazed at the installations, at the looks and feels of the buildings and specially at the friendliness the people showed at me. Overwhelmed for sure.
I’ve lived in Mexico, Canada and in the UK, and up until this day I always say that if I had the chance to go and live somewhere outside of Mexico it would be Sheffield. I love how relaxed the atmosphere is, how you get to know a lot of people. Most of the time while walking down West St. or through the City Centre, you were able to meet some of your friends, make plans to go to the pub, have a drink and chill out; all while still pursuing your dream.
I have fond memories of Sheffield, and I will always be grateful and have Sheffield in my heart for the rest of my life as that is where my son was born. It will be a reminder of all the good times that we had there.
