Global Opportunities travel bursary
Travel bursaries availability to Sheffield students who are planning independent travels abroad in 2021 have not been confirmed.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, summer opportunities in 2021 may be subject to change or cancellation at short notice. Whilst we are anticipating that overseas travel will be permitted by summer 2021, partner universities and overseas organisations are still reviewing their summer plans for 2021. Some opportunities may be offered as a virtual experience only or may be cancelled altogether. Students should keep this in mind and take a flexible approach when considering their options.
Students participating in an independently arranged overseas experience relevant to their studies or future career development can apply for a travel bursary worth £500.
Eligible overseas activities may include (but are not limited to):
- Internships or work experience
- Overseas volunteering
- Field trips
- Conducting research
- Academic summer schools or language courses
Erasmus+, Study Abroad and Partner Summer Schools are not eligible schemes, as these programmes have alternative forms of financial support.
The travel bursaries are open to all students, however, you must be returning to Sheffield to complete your studies following the activity abroad (i.e. you cannot apply if the activity will take place after the conclusion of your studies in your final year).
Awards will be made in two rounds:
- 1st Round: Application deadline 1st December
- 2nd Round: Application deadline 17th February
Successful students will be notified by email, with details of the criteria for the award to be paid. Students who apply in the December round will be notified before the Christmas closure.
Applications are closed for the academic year 2019-2020.
