Global Summer Experience Scholarship
The Global Summer Experience scholarship pays for your airfare, tuition fees and accommodation at a summer school with one of our selected international partner universities.
Offer holders (2023 entry)
Undergraduate offer holders who hold an academic offer to study a full time, undergraduate course at the University of Sheffield starting in September 2023, who are eligible to pay the home rate of fees and who are expected to achieve A*, A, A (or higher) in A-Levels (or equivalent).

Eligibility
You must meet all of the criteria below to be eligible to receive an award:
- Be in receipt of the a University of Sheffield Bursary
- Be in first year of an undergraduate course at the University of Sheffield that started September 2022 (year 1, not foundation year)
- Be paying the home rate of fees
- Not be registered on a course that includes a compulsory year abroad
How to apply
Eligible students will be contacted by email inviting them to apply.
Applications will open shortly. The deadline to submit your application is 9am Tuesday 14th February 2023.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application before the end of February 2023 and successful students will be contacted about their options.
Details of the Global Summer Experience Scholarships
- To apply for this scholarship you need to be studying a full-time undergraduate course at the University of Sheffield, that started in September 2022
- For courses across all faculties.
- Students studying a course with a compulsory year abroad are not eligible to apply.
- There are 30 awards available.
- The summer school will be at one of our partner institutions in selected countries. Available partners can change from year to year.
- The summer school will take place in the summer between your first and second year.
- Summer schools are not subject specific.
- This scheme isn't available to you if you're starting a foundation year course.
- The award is only for new undergraduate students starting their first degree at the University.
Selection process
A selection panel consisting of senior professional services staff will consider your scholarship application. When making their decision, the panel will give regard to the following:
- Applicant has provided a clear rationale for applying for their chosen undergraduate course at the University of Sheffield.
- Applicant has clearly articulated how the scholarship will benefit their future ambitions.
- Applicant has detailed their strengths and weaknesses, and why they would be a good recipient of this scholarship.
When will the summer school take place?
Winners undertake the summer school after completing their first year of university. Those starting at the University in 2022 will go on the summer school in 2023.

The AU Housing Service assists international Summer University students finding a place to stay during the course. You can apply for a furnished, single room in student residences or shared facility houses situated at a distance of max. 5 km from campus. All rooms have access to a kitchen and bathroom (some rooms have private bathrooms, but this isn't guaranteed). Rooms are furnished with bed, table, chair, lamp and clothes storage furniture. With comfortable rooms, fully-equipped common lounges, sports facilities and sprawling lawns, the Ashoka University campus is designed for a vibrant student life. Students can choose from a range of sporting activities including football, frisbee, lawn tennis, basketball, swimming, table tennis, cycling and jogging. Student clubs and societies of academic and extra-curricular nature cover a wide range, from debate society to anime club. Visiting students can actively use these facilities and participate in all the events during their time at Ashoka.
Accommodation
Ashoka is a fully residential campus and has been equipped to house around 1150 students in 715 fully furnished, air-conditioned rooms. Residences have common bathrooms on each floor, a lounge area and facilities for laundry and fitness.

Prague is ranked 5th in the TripAdvisor’s list of the world’s best destinations. This is probably due to the fact it is home to a number of famous cultural attractions, ten major museums, theatres, galleries and cinemas. The summer school offers courses in a number of Social Sciences and Arts areas:
Architecture Fine Art History Law Media and Communications Politics Sociological StudiesThere are also German Language courses on offer with five levels of ability available, from beginner to advanced level.
All courses offer the chance to have a riverboat tour through the city, as well as a tour of the Reichstag building and the Federal Parliament.
Extracurricular Activity
Students are welcomed to the summer school with a registration event, and it concludes with a farewell party.
Students can also take part in other activities for a fee. These have previously included street art tours of the city, day trips to Leipzig as well as weekend trips to Dresden and Potsdam.
Accommodation
Accommodation is available in the student dorms off campus, which is offered on a first come, first served basis. Students will need to travel from the accommodation to the campus, and they are around 40 minutes from the city centre.
You stay in single room with shared bathrooms and kitchens. The accommodation is close to grocery markets, a number of restaurants and local bakeries.

The residential programme is designed to offer students a chance to experience university life in Singapore and its multi-cultural society. All summer courses are accredited for possible credit transfer back to their Home Universities. These summer offerings are also popular amongst exchange students over the semester.
Global Summer Experience students: You may only choose a maximum of 2 courses and you must not select course ET9134, which carries an S$300 licence fee. If you choose any more than two courses or ET9134, you will be responsible for the associated cost(s).
