Introduction to Ear Care

Study Day

Who is it for?

This is an introductory course and NOT an update.

This study day is suitable for first level registered nurses working in primary care settings who need skills to undertake assessments of common ear conditions and to practice safe ear irrigation.


Overview of content:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the ear
  • Common ear problems
  • Otoscopy
  • Theory and practice of irrigation
  • Documentation
  • Hearing loss

What is it about?

This study session explores the recognition and safe management of common ear conditions in primary care, including safe ear irrigation. The study day will look at the ear anatomy; wax; ear irrigation and patient education.


How does it enhance practice?

It equips nurses with the skills to undertake assessments of common ear conditions and to practice safe ear irrigation. This is an introduction to ear care and not an update.
