Rose Brooks

I trained as a primary and special needs teacher in the USA. After teaching in primary education for seven years (including roles as SENCo, deputy head and acting headteacher), I moved across to the local authority advisory service. Advisory teacher posts have covered a range of areas, including General Learning Difficulties, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Autism and currently speech and language.

Early in my career I completed an MA in Curriculum Studies at the London Institute of Education, carrying out a qualitative study on teacher perceptions of research. A continuing interest in the needs of individual learners has led to a postgraduate diploma in Dyslexia and an MSc in my current department. My dissertation, which received a distinction, focussed on effective methods of vocabulary instruction.
