Profile

I commenced my PhD in the Division of Nursing & Midwifery in October 2018, funded by Umm Al-Qura University, Saudi Arabia. I obtained my MS in Social Work (focus on child and family welfare) from LIU Brooklyn, USA. Due to my interest in the area of child and family welfare, I chose to continue my study by pursuing a PhD at the University of Sheffield.

With regards to issues that are related to marital life, I realised that research related to intimate partner violence (IPV) in many countries including Saudi Arabia is scarce. Thus, I strongly felt that more is needed to be done to explore the topic of IPV in Saudi Arabia, especially about the perspective of men who can play a significant role in their families with regards to prevention of IPV.

Research interests
  • Gender-based violence
  • Child abuse and neglect
  • Elder abuse

Research project

My current project focuses on IPV in Saudi Arabia. I realised that researchers still knew little about the topic, especially about the perspective of men. Thus, the social problem of IPV can be better understood through the application of an intensive and logical method for understanding its inbuilt factors and features. Thus, I have chosen constructivist grounded theory (CGT) for this study. CGT will help to search out the social situations highlighting the issue of IPV, especially from the standpoint of Saudi men to generate a theory grounded in data that leads to understanding how Saudi men define IPV.
