The Department of History is committed to supporting students throughout their time at University. This means both academic and pastoral support. The table below outlines some of the key services available to students.

Personal Tutoring

Every student is allocated a Personal Tutor who will act as their first point of contact in the University. Personal Tutors are available to discuss and support academic progression and address any problems you may have.

301: Student Skills and Development Centre

301 offers a range of tutorials, workshops, and other activities to support skills and development and help students reach their academic potential.

Careers Service

The Careers Service offers a wide range of information and services, including support with application/CV writing, developing your skills, and looking for jobs.

Counselling Service & Student Access to Mental Health Support (SAMHS)

All students are entitled to a psychological assessment; these services offer a triage appointment and will direct you to the most appropriate support.

Disability and Dyslexia Support Services

DDSS should be contacted if students have a disability, or become aware of any disability issues during the course of their studies.

Sheffield University Nightline

Nightline is a telephone listening service run by trained student volunteers. They are anonymous, confidential and non-directive. They do not judge anybody and are always happy to listen. No problem is too big or too small!


SSiD have extensive knowledge of University processes and are able to help with a wide range of queries. SSiD also provide academic transcripts, council tax exemption letters and lots of other useful documents.

Student Advice Centre

The Student Advice Centre is a free service run by the Students' Union, providing support on housing, money, immigration and lots of other issues.

University Health Service

This medical practice is for students of the University of Sheffield.
