Richard Thurlow's research interests relate mainly to political extremism and the British state in the twentieth century. He is particularly interested in British Fascism, the Communist Party of Great Britain, the political surveillance of extremist movements and the history of MI5, Special Branch, the British intelligence and security community, and divisions within the British State about the management and control of the political fringe.
