How is your experience of studying at Sheffield so far?
I'm currently a first year studying French and History. I chose this course because it allowed me to follow my two main passions, History and Languages, without having to choose between them. I love the history course because in the first year it provides you with a really sound overview of European/World history which will be invaluable in future years and modules because you will already have some kind of basic knowledge from the first year. This is also true of French; it gives you a flavour of, and allows you to explore all the different areas of French studies so it will be easier for you to make decisions about Year 2 modules and beyond.
What do you particularly enjoy about your degree programme?
The best thing about the course is probably that you don't get stuck doing one subject all the time, which could be a little too much at times, so you get a little bit of break by switching between the two. The University in general, but the history department especially, are just amazing to be a part of; the history society does some fantastic socials and the staff are so lovely and willing to help you with anything. I think the course provides students with skills that will be valuable for any career in the future, and I believe that it will stand me well when I, hopefully, go into teaching!
