Why did you choose to study at Sheffield?
Sheffield University had such a positive reputation that I was immediately interested in studying there, My English teacher, at secondary school, had previously studied at Sheffield and recommended it. The university appealed to me more and more as I researched it. It offered me the chance to follow my passions for History and English by studying a dual subject. The History department are so enthusiastic and engaging and the wide variety of modules for study, made Sheffield my only choice for where I wanted to study.
Has your experience so far been what you expected?
I love learning and being challenged and Sheffield has exceeded all my expectations. It is such a wonderful environment to learn in. The lecturing and teaching team are so helpful, informative and always on hand to share their research and love of history.
What are you particularly enjoying about your degree?
My special subject for Level Three has been brilliant so far. I am studying Ideals and Realities in Renaissance Florence. The seminars, teaching, reading and discussions are thought provoking, interesting and the seminars always feel like a safe place to exchange and debate new ideas.
What have you been studying this year?
I am studying the Renaissance Florence module for the academic year, and my dissertation will accompany this module in the Spring semester. I have also studied Romantic and Victorian Literature, the Elegy and Contemporary Literature in my English degree.
What else have you enjoyed outside of your studies?
I have enjoyed having to opportunity to mentor and support first years who started University in September 2015. This was a really rewarding experience. I also have fallen in love with the S10 sports centre and have become a regular gym goer. I never thought I would be a member of a gym but it has been one of the most enjoyable new things I have tried since starting at Sheffield.
Would you recommend studying at Sheffield to a friend?
I would recommend Sheffield University to anyone and everyone. I have loved studying here and I am sad it is coming to an end. If I could offer any advice to potential students, it would be that, Sheffield will not disappoint. It has made being an undergraduate one of the best experiences I could have asked for - even better than I ever had imagined.
