Hannah-Clayton-Profile-PictureWhy did you choose to study at Sheffield?

I came to visit Sheffield quite last minute, I didn't attend any Open Day's either pre application or post, so I had no formal experience of the University. However when I came and walked around the University there was a really positive atmosphere unlike any of the other universities I had visited. I knew Sheffield to be of a very high rating for both of History and Philosophy, so once I had visited for me there was no compeititon.

Has your experience so far been what you expected?

I have loved every minute of my time at University. There have inevitably been times that were hard but being in such a supportive environment with academic staff that are approachable and a great student body, mean that it has always been a very enjoyable experience.

What are you particularly enjoying about your degree?

I like the variety I get in my degree. I chose a dual honours degree because I couldn't decide which course to choose, by combining them I have the best of both worlds. The two subjects both complement each other whilst being incredibly different. This variety in my course means that I am always challenged and never bored.

What have you been studying this year?

This year I am studying the special subject topic of The United States and the Cold War and on my Philosophy side of the degree, this semester I have studied Philosophy of Sex and next term I shall study Global Justice. I am particularly enjoying studying the Cold War because I have never studied it before despite it always being an area of interest.

What do you enjoy about being a dual student?

The variety it gives me and the fact it allows me to study two subjects that I love that I would never have been able to pick between.

What skills have you learnt that you'll be able to take away from your degree?

Time management and organisation particularly by doing a dual degree, the ability to read efficiently but quickly and form a strong argument.

Do you have any plans for after graduation?

I plan to take up a job in PR in London.

What do you like about living in Sheffield?

I love Sheffield as a place, its surprisingly green which people outside of Sheffield never seem to realise! The proximity to the peak district is a real bonus and contrasting this with a great night life and student environment means that it is a great place to be.

Would you recommend studying at Sheffield to a friend?

100%. I always recommend it to people whenever I can. One thing that particularly seems to stand out about Sheffield is that we have the friendliest student body and we all love our university.

Anything else you want to say?

I have absolutely loved my time at Sheffield, I just wish I had more time!
