Why did you choose to study at Sheffield?
I actually didn't attend an open day until I was an offer holder due to the vibrant course content and the sheer reputation of the history department in the university of Sheffield. I loved Sheffield as a city already and couldn't imagine not studying history at the university of Sheffield.
Has your experience so far been what you expected?
My experience has far surpassed any expectations I ever had, and those expectations were fairly high to begin with! the layout of the course is very well done especially in terms of dual honours and the lecturers are always approachable and helpful as are the seminar guides.
What are you particularly enjoying about your degree?
I really enjoy the flexibility of the course. Personally I enjoy modern history the most and there are plenty of modules that cater to different time periods of history and different historical events. I also really enjoy being able to spend time in a lecture and then time in a seminar to consolidate everything I've learnt!
What have you been studying this year?
This year I am studying Historians and History, The History of Terrorism and US Foreign Relations. I particularly enjoyed the making of the twentieth century module as it spanned such a wide time frame and dealt with some very interesting topics such as genocide and ethnic cleansing.
What do you enjoy about being a dual student?
I really enjoy being able to learn about historical events and periods of history and then understand from a sociological perspective the reasoning behind the events - I also mentioned above that I love the flexibility of the module choice as a dual honours student.
What do you like about living in Sheffield?
I love that living in Sheffield you get the best of student city life with the benefit of the peaks right around the corner!
Would you recommend studying at Sheffield to a friend?
100%. I would recommend to a friend and often do!
Anything else that you want to say?
I couldn't think of a better place to study, the city is fantastic with a huge student base and the university is a supportive and friendly atmosphere where you learn to be independent whilst studying something that you're passionate about. One of the best decisions I've made is to come and study at the university of Sheffield!
