Our academics are world-leaders in their field. This research expertise feeds directly into their teaching and supervision, ensuring you are receiving the best possible academic experience.

The Sheffield History Department was ranked third in the UK in the latest Research Excellence Framework exercise 2014. The REF assesses departments on the basis of impact, research environment and our outputs (the books, articles and chapters written by members of the Department) and these outputs were judged even higher, coming 2nd in the country both in terms of their average score and in terms of the overall quality - the proportion of research that is judged to be world-leading or international excellent.
