Why did you choose to take a History MA programme? and why did you choose Sheffield particularly?
The University of Sheffield has a unique relationship with the public. The MA reflects that in its structure, and that reflects on my own desire for a better relationship between history and the public outside of heritage sites and museums. A postgraduate degree from the University of Sheffield puts me on the front line of that ambition. The University is one of the best institutions in the world, with best student experience in the United Kingdom so it really is, on balance, the best option.
Tell us a bit about the course...
The quality of the individual modules is breath-taking. At the start of the MA I felt that I had considered all aspects of history, that my undergraduate degree had fully challenged me. A Medieval MA does the extraordinary job of challenging everything you think you knew.
What are the benefits of postgraduate study?
Postgraduate study is individual and demanding, and that alone makes it feel like a worthwhile investment. As well as that, unlike the undergraduate degree there is a different sense of inclusion amongst postgraduates. This ranges from just socially, to departmental talks and lectures.
What advice would you give to others considering postgraduate study?
If you wish to know more and more about less and less, and in the meantime discover a course that not only challenges you but also excites, then an MA at the University of Sheffield is for you.
