Why did you choose to study at Sheffield?
After attending an open day at Sheffield, I loved how green the city was. It was my insurance choice, but I am so glad I ended up here as the course has covered my interests every year.
What do you particularly enjoy about your degree?
The modules have always been really informative and it is amazing to be lectured by leading academics in the subject area.
What are you studying this year? Are there any modules that you've particularly enjoyed?
This year, I am studying Conflict, Cultures and (De)Colonisation, a thematic module centred around actively decolonising the curriculum in history, and Britain’s Social Revolution: Welfare, State and Society, c. 1870-1914, for my dissertation - Social Revolution in Victorian Britain.
I am really enjoying these and also loved my second-year modules on culture and sexuality in Britain and the origins of the welfare state.
Also in second year, I enjoyed studying the Aztecs document option as it was something I'd never touched on before.
If you’ve undertaken any extra-curricular activities, what do you feel these have added to your time here?
Being on History Society Committee has been such a large part of my university experience. It has really helped me make friends for life and really feel part of the department.
Furthermore, I was History Councillor on the SU Council in second year, and found this really rewarding to represent the department.
How would you sum up your overall experience of studying at Sheffield?
Rainy and hilly but the best three years of my life so far!
What skills have you learnt that you'll be able to take away from your degree?
Skills I have gained include researching and analysing skills, as well as building on my communication skills.
Do you have any plans for after graduation?
I'd like to study for a Master's degree in Education and go on to teach. Eventually I would like to help make education policy.
What do you like about the University and/or living in Sheffield?
I love the amount of green space and how friendly everyone is. There is always something going on!
Would you recommend studying at Sheffield to a friend?
I would highly recommend studying in Sheffield. It feels like home now.
