UNISON Ballot Result Declared

Following a sector-wide ballot of its members in relation to the 2012–13 national pay negotiations, UNISON has confirmed that it has, by a narrow margin, received a mandate to call upon its members to undertake strike action.

Across the country 3,432 UNISON members (50.3% of those who voted) were in support of strike action. The total number of members participating within the vote was estimated to be around 25% of total membership. UNISON have aggregated the ballot results, combining all votes nationally into one overall result, rather than providing an institution by institution breakdown of votes cast within each HE institution.

To date no notice has been received by the University of any intended strike action by UNISON, although it is likely that such notice will be received before the end of October.
