Investors in People Good Practice Receives an Award
The University's Careers Service has secured a Runner Up 'Award for Excellence' in the Staff Development Category of the Association of Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), for its Summer School programme to develop staff. This was identified as good practice in the department's recent Investors in People internal review.
The text below is taken from the award submission:
"In addition to the university commitment through the Staff Review and Development System undertaken by all staff and attendance at a range of AGCAS and employer facilitated events, the University of Sheffield Careers Service has developed a ‘Summer School ‘ which is delivered every year and in which all staff participate. The aim of the Summer School is to ensure all staff have access to relevant training and information on a range of current topics from an understanding of the contribution of the Careers Service, to the wider University, through to updates on specific areas of work. Speakers are drawn from within the Service, the University and occasionally external to the organisation.
The sessions are run on a fortnightly basis and are typically of a 45 minute to a 60 minute duration and combine an input with the opportunity for discussion and questions. The sessions this year (7 in total run from June to September and are linked to service staff meetings). The topics covered are influenced by the management group of the service but also include areas following consultation with all staff."
