Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Network Launch
We are delighted to announce the Launch of the University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) staff network.
The network will enable LGBT staff to come together, relaxed and informally, to share information, gain and offer support and, by signalling an LGBT presence on campus, ensure we maintain a fully inclusive environment in which we can each reach our full potential without fear of discrimination.
The launch will take place on Monday 17th May, 12.00pm – 1.00pm, in the Seminar Room at 301 Glossop Road and include a brief excerpt of the film ‘the celluloid closet’ with introduction and will be a chance for people to meet each other over tea/coffee and biscuits.
All LGBT staff are invited to bring along your sandwiches and attend this important inaugural meeting.
The launch date has been planned to coincide with International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO). IDAHO was launched in 2005 to commemorate the World Health Organisation decision to remove homosexuality from the list of mental disorders.
We are proud to mark this day with the Launch of our LGBT Staff Network. Other events we are holding include:
• Recognising Hate Crimes by South Yorkshire Police - Tuesday 18th May 12-1pm, Tapestry Room, Firth Court - Open to all staff and students.
• Staff & Student Counselling Seminar on the services they provide – Thursday 20th May 12-1pm, Abbeydale Room, University House - Open to all staff and students.
• Sexual Health for LGBT Groups by Eleanor Formby – Wednesday 29th September, Abbeydale Room, University House - Open to all staff and students.
