Announcement of Pregnancy
The following guidance should be read in conjunction with the University’s Maternity Leave Policy and Procedure.
- It is important that the member of staff informs their manager at an early stage of the pregnancy, to enable an appropriate risk assessment to be undertaken.
- It is particularly important for a risk assessment to be conducted as early as possible, if the member of staff is working within a potential risk environment. In such circumstances, the member of staff may wish to inform their Departmental Safety Officer* when still in the early stages of pregnancy. This will enable an early assessment of potential risks, whilst enabling the staff member to determine when they wish to announce their pregnancy to their manager and work colleagues.
- Once the staff member has announced their pregnancy, planning can begin for the anticipated absence with their manager.
*If you are uncertain of your Departmental Safety Officer, please contact Health and Safety.
