Review of Statute Section 6 - Presentation

The Charter, Statutes and Regulations of Council are a key part of the University’s heritage and governance structure. They are reviewed from time to time to ensure they remain effective and efficient, most recently during 2012/2013.

Section 6 of the Statutes relates to employment, and needed revising to ensure it: complies with employment law; provides academic freedom protections to relevant staff in appropriate circumstances relating to employment; and enables all University staff to be covered by employment procedures based upon principles of fairness, justice and good practice.

In October 2012, Council endorsed recommendations to undertake a review of the University's Charter, Statutes and Ordinances and Regulations of Council. The revisions were considered by the Privy Council in October 2013. Read more about this below.
