Honorary Academic Titles
Honorary Academic Titles may be used to confirm regular on-going collaborations between the University of Sheffield and individuals employed by The City College of Thessaloniki. Such individuals will be making significant professional and/or academic contributions to the University and to City College.
No remuneration is paid by the University of Sheffield to those holding Honorary Academic Titles and individuals will not, by virtue of holding an Honorary Academic Title, be an employee of the University of Sheffield.
The below provides guidance for the appropriate use of Honorary Academic Titles conferred by the University of Sheffield. The titles described are not intended to be exhaustive and The City College or the Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellors at the University of Sheffield wishing to confer a title not listed should discuss their recommendation with the Department of Human Resources in the first instance. Role of City College, Thessaloniki
Honorary Academic Titles are conferred upon individuals who possess the qualifications, experience and standing appropriate to the Honorary Title to be awarded by the University. City College should therefore carefully consider the University's descriptions which summarise the key and typical responsibilities and requirements for each Title before making a recommendation.
City College Thessaloniki is responsible for recommending appropriate Honorary Academic Titles. A Request for Honorary Academic Title form must be completed (see Downloads) for each individual on whom City College wish the University to confer an Honorary Academic Title. A full CV should accompany each request.
Role of the Faculty Director of Research & Innovation/Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor
Recommendations for an Honorary Academic Title up to and including Honorary Senior Lecturer/equivalent will be considered and approved by the Faculty Director of Research & Innovation (or the Faculty Director of Learning & Teaching, as appropriate) of the faculty by which the award is requested.
Recommendations for an Honorary Reader/Honorary Professor will be considered and approved by the Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the faculty by which the reward is requested.
On receipt of the City College´s recommendation for an Honorary Academic Title
The Faculty Director of Research & Innovation/Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor should give full consideration to the case presented. The following may be used as a guide to aid decision-making:
- Individual's standing and contribution to his/her profession/field of expertise
- Individual's experience and qualifications (available from the CV)
The Faculty Director of Research & Innovation/Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor are responsible for upholding the standards and status of Honorary Academic Titles.
When the Faculty Director of Research & Innovation/Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor is satisfied that the eligibility criteria have been met, the recommendation may be approved. The Faculty Director of Research & Innovation/Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor should sign the completed "Request for Conferment of Honorary Academic Title" form and return it to the Department of Human Resources.
Confirmation of Conferment of Honorary Academic Titles
The Department of Human Resources will confirm the conferment of the Honorary Academic Title in writing to the individual, enclosing a copy of the terms and conditions associated with holding an Honorary Academic Title (see Downloads).
Terms & Conditions of Conferment
An individual upon whom an Honorary Academic Title is conferred will be required to follow the University's Terms and Conditions of conferment. Individuals awarded Honorary Academic Titles will, upon obtaining a U-Card, gain access to University computing and library services.
The Faculty Director of Research & Innovation and City College will receive a copy of the letter confirming the Honorary Academic Title from the Department of Human Resources.
The Department of Human Resources will issue City College with a list of staff holding an Honorary Academic Title on an annual basis and they will be asked to confirm whether or not the association with each individual should continue.
