Reward Timetable

1 January

Effective date of incremental pay progression to reward normal contribution for staff on the University of Sheffield Grade Structure. (First incremental pay progression after appointment are payable as detailed below).

Implementation date of any salary increases, promotions and bonuses agreed as part of the Annual Reward & Recognition Review including:

  • Additional incremental pay progression to reward exceptional contribution for staff on the University of Sheffield Grade Structure;
  • Career progression promotions for staff (academic and some technical) on the University of Sheffield Grade Structure;
  • Academic career progression promotions to Reader and Personal Chair;
  • Salary increases, re-banding or bonus for Professorial and Professorial Equivalent Staff.

1 April

Effective date of increase for national Clinical Salary Scales.

1 August

Effective date of the National Pay Award for staff on the University of Sheffield Grade Structure.

1 September

Effective date for reviewed Academic Leader Allowances.

1 October

Effective date of increments for clinical academics and clinical researchers. (First incremental pay progression after appointment are payable as detailed below).

September - November

Department and faculty panels convene to review reward cases put forward as part of the Annual Reward & Recognition Review.

Each Faculty will determine their own internal timetable of meetings and activities in relation to promotions during the year.  Please check the dates relevant for your department.

December

The University Reward & Recognition Panel Convenes to review decisions and agree recommendations put forward by Faculty and Professional Services Panels as part of the Annual Reward & Recognition Review.

Throughout the year

Colleagues can be nominated to receive Recognition Awards.

When is incremental pay progression payable after appointment?

For staff on the University of Sheffield Grading Scheme, first incremental pay progression after appointment is payable as follows:

  • Staff commencing employment between 1 January and 30 June may expect to receive incremental pay progression on 1 January in the following calendar year (e.g. a member of staff commencing employment on 1 February 2017 may expect to receive incremental pay progression on 1 January 2018).
  • Staff commencing employment between 1 July and 31 December may expect to receive incremental pay progression on 1 January following the anniversary of their appointment (e.g. a member of staff commencing employment on 1 October 2017may expect to receive incremental pay progression on 1 January 2019).

For Clinical Academics and Clinical Research staff who do not hold an Honorary Consultant, first incremental pay progression after appointment is payable as follows:

  • Staff commencing employment between 1 October and 31 March inclusive may expect to receive incremental pay progression on the following 1 October with incremental pay progression on each 1 October thereafter.
  • Staff commencing employment between 1 April and 30 September inclusive may expect to receive incremental pay progression on 1 October in the following calendar year with incremental pay progression on each 1 October thereafter. In this case your initial salary will have taken into account the span of time prior to payment of the first incremental pay progression.

Please Note: Staff holding an Honorary Consultant contract have a pay progression date which relates to the anniversary of their appointment to their first consultant position, see employment terms and conditions for more details.
