Juice Activities

What's on offer?

As part of the University’s health and wellbeing service for staff, we aim to offer a range of accessible, varied and fun activities for staff to attend - all for free! With a mixture of social and physical activities including swimming, book group and even physiotherapy, you are sure to find a new activity you love.

The list below outlines the activities we offer throughout the year, as well as information on what you might need to get involved. This list is not finite and we are always open to activity suggestions from staff, so if there is an activiy that you would like to see us run then please let us know! Board Game Tile

Board Games Café

From draughts to dominoes, and strategy games to card games, there’s something for everyone at our Board Game Café!

What you will need: You are welcome to bring your own games along to this session, and a variety of games will also be provided.

When? Every Friday lunctime, 12-1pm

Body Health Check

Body Health Check

A 30 minute one-to-one session with our friendly, qualified fitness instructors to assess your current wellbeing and look at targets for the future.

What you will need: Please wear a loose fitting top so that your blood pressure can be taken.  Please note you will need to have bare feet for the body comporition measurement so please refrain from wearing tights.

When? These can be done pre work, during lunch breaks or post work. To arrange your health check, please email personaltraining@sheffield.ac.uk

Book Group

Book Group

A monthly lunchtime session to discuss our book of the month. Expect lively discussion around characters, writing style and authors, covering a wide range of genres including everything from sci-fi, to autobiographies and beyond.

What you will need: You will need to read the relevant book before the session, but no need to bring anything on the day - just your thoughts and opinions!

When? Once a month, usually in the last week of the month.  The next book group meeting takes place on 22nd Jan, discussing Circe by Madeline Miller

Bootcamp

Bootcamp

Combining traditional cardio moves with functional bodyweight exercises, our outdoor bootcamp classes are a great workout!

What you will need: This session takes place outdoors, so remember to wrap up warm in the winter months and wear some outdoor trainers!

When? Every Monday 5:30pm - 6:15pm and every Tuesday 12:15pm - 1:00pm

Bouldering

Bouldering

Give climbing a go on our safe bouldering walls with the help and support of our friendly and experienced qualified instructors.

What you will need: Climing shoes, supports and chalk are all provided, please wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in.

When? Every Tuesday at 12:15pm and 1:00pm

Cardio HIIT

Cardio HIIT

This class mixes High Intensity Interval Training and traditional circuit cardio and strength style training - no equipment needed just lots of enthusiasm and a willingness to work hard!

What you will need: Please bring your Ucard and 20p for the lockers (if required). Showers and changing facilities are available. Please wear appropriate gym clothing and indoor trainers.

When? Every Thursday 8:00am - 8:30am

Tennis

Cardio Tennis Bootcamp 

(activity currently under review, more information to follow soon)

A fun, social group fitness session set on a tennis court and suitable for all ages and abilities. In a fun and friendly environment, you’ll get to hit lots of tennis balls and have great cardio workout at the same time.

What you will need: This session takes place on the Weston Park tennis courts, so please wear outdoor trainers.

When? This activity will be returning as a 6-week taster block - watch this space!

C25K

Couch 2 5k

A beginner level running course for people who want to be more active. It starts with a mix of running and walking to gradually build up your fitness and stamina, and ends with a 5k parkrun!

What you will need: This session takes place outdoors so, please wrap up warm in the winter months and wear your outdoor trainers

When? This session takes place in 11 week blocks - watch this space for details of the next course!

Gardening Group

Looking for an opportunity to learn some basic gardening skills or improve your existing knowledge in a friendly, relaxed setting? Why not try out our gardening group?

What you will need: Please wear suitable clothing and sturdy footwear for working outdoors and bring your own gloves.

When? Every last Thursday of the month, 1-2pm.

Gym

Gym Pass

Enjoy all that the S10 Gym offers for free! Spread over 2 floors, there’s a huge range of equipment and our friendly and experienced gym staff are on hand to support you.

What you will need: Please bring your Ucard and 20p for the lockers (if required). Showers and changing facilities are available. Please wear appropriate gym clothing and indoor trainers.

When? Once monthly on a Thursday, 7-9am

Walk

Lunchtime Walk

(activity currently under review, more information to follow soon)

Join colleagues for a 30-minute scenic walk on varying routes around the local area - suitable for all walking abilities.

What you will need: You may wish to wear some comfortable shoes and warm clothes in the winter months.

When? Every other Monday lunchtime

Meditation

Meditation

This relaxing class will allow you to focus on your breathing and body to help you achieve a calmer mind, setting you up for the rest of the day.

What you will need: No need to bring anything to this session, just yourself.

When? Every Wednesday 12:15pm - 1:00pm

Needlework

Needlework & Repair Café

A chance for staff to come together to learn and share knowledge of anything that uses needles e.g. embroidery, crochet, knitting, cross-stitch, quilting, patchwork etc. to make or repair.

What you will need: Basic equipment will be provided, but please bring your own materials and threads where you can.

When? Alternating weekly between Wednesday 12pm to Thursday 1pm.  The Repair Café takes place in the last session of every month.

Netball

Netball

These weekly sessions will provide all ages & abilities with a gentle re-introduction to the sport - sessions will include mini games with the emphasis on team work & fun.

What you will need: This session takes place outdoors, so remember to wrap up warm in the winter months and wear some outdoor trainers! Bibs and balls are provided.

When: Weekly on Thursdays, 6pm - 7pm

Physio

Physiotherapy

A free 15-minute consultation with a Chartered Physiotherapist for an assessment of any musculoskeletal problems, from postural and spinal problems to acute sport injuries.

What you will need: Please take you Ucard as proof of identification.

When? Weekly on Thursdays at 12pm, 12:15pm, 12:30pm and 12:45pm

Pilates

Pilates

A refreshing mind and body workout which focuses on core stability and posture. Exercises are performed in a very slow, controlled manner incorporating relaxation and breathing techniques.

What you will need: Please bring your own yoga mat or towel and wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in.

When? Every other Friday 12:30 - 1:15pm

Spin

Spinning Class

An indoor cardiovascular workout using stationary bikes, this is great energy bursting class including hill climbs and sprints.

What you will need: Please bring your Ucard and 20p for the lockers (if required). Showers and changing facilities are available. Please wear appropriate gym clothing and indoor trainers.

When? Weekly on Wednesdays, 8am - 8:30am

Swim

Swimming

A chance to try lane swimming in the Sport Sheffield 33m indoor heated pool at your own pace.  You can also access the sauna and steam room!

What you will need: Please bring your Ucard and 20p for the lockers (if required). Showers and changing facilities are available.

When? Every Tuesday and Friday, 7am - 9am

Tai-Chi

Tai-Chi

In this very gentle form of martial art, movements are performed in a slow and controlled way to relax the body and mind.

What you will need: No equipment needed, just waer comfortable clothes that you can move around in.

When? Weekly on Wednesdays, 8am - 8:30am

Yoga

Yoga

Come and try Ashtanga yoga. Fun and energetic, you'll develop strength, flexibility and your laughter muscles at the same time!

What you will need: Please bring your own yoga mat or towel and wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in.

When? Weekly on Mondays, 12:15pm - 1pm

Zumba

Zumba

Combining high energy musical fusions of traditional Latin beats to create challenging yet easy to follow routines, Zumba is a combination of fitness and fun rolled into one!

What you will need: Please bring your Ucard and 20p for the lockers (if required). Showers and changing facilities are available. Please wear appropriate gym clothing and indoor trainers.

When? Weekly on Tuesdays, 1pm - 1:45pm
