Employers for Carers
Did you know? Around 1 in 8 members of staff at the University are carers and this number is set to grow as more of us care for relatives and friends in an aging population.
Managing the dual pressures of work and home life can be difficult and without support, carers may suffer from stress and exhaustion or may simply give up work all together.
At the University of Sheffield, we want to ensure that all members of staff can thrive at work by offering practical support, raising awareness and establishing a culture of support.
In line with our commitment to provide support for staff who need to balance their working commitments and careers with caring responsibilities outside of work, our University recently became members of Employers for Carers, Carers UK's business forum.
Our membership includes access to efcdigital.org which offers a range of resources that can help us support our staff who juggle work and care. This includes:
Resources For Staff
- Supporting working carers: a carer’s guide – with information on your legal rights and support with how to get practical help
- A guide to requesting flexible working
Resources For Managers
- Supporting working carers: a managers guide – with information on the law and advice around flexibility
- Line manager e-learning
