Child Health Assessment & Applied Pathophysiology (SNM664)
Who is it for?
This module is aimed at paediatric nurses who wish to develop their knowledge and practical skills in paediatric history taking, clinical assessment and examination and clinical management of a sick child.
What is it about?
The module aims to provide students with the underpinning knowledge of pathophysiology necessary to gain autonomy and mastery in paediatric history taking, clinical assessment and the formulation of an appropriate clinical management plan. The development of enhanced clinical reasoning and decision making will provide the justification for the differential diagnosis and the rationale for ordering and interpreting the relevant investigations and treatment.
How does it enhance practice?
This module promotes an in depth understanding of the underlying pathophysiology relevant to paediatric illness allowing for a systematic and informed approach to care delivery.
Mode of assessment
Knowledge gained relating to this module will be assessed using a multiple choice question (MCQ) examination, observed structured clinical examination (OSCE) stations and an oral case presentation.
