Neonatal Development & Family Centred Care

Who is it for?

This study day is suitable for Paediatric & Neonatal trainees, Advanced Neonatal Practitioners and Consultant Paediatricians.

Covering important clinical neonatal topics such as;

  • Parent and carer engagement and support in the NICU
  • Recognising and responding to infant cues
  • Preterm brain & sensory development
  • Long term neurodevelopmental outcomes
  • Management and impact of neonatal pain

What is it about?

Whilst scientific research, BLISS survey data and neonatal practitioners agree that excellent developmental care, which is both holistic and family-centred is key in the NICU, a national survey in 2015 identified a significant need for additional and tailored learning opportunities for professionals training in this area. In addition to its’ importance in optimising neonatal outcomes, the practise of neurodevelopmental care also maps to several generic, as well as specific curriculum items, but trainees and consultants told us they didn’t feel training in the area was adequate in the majority of settings.

This one day interactive course, has been designed and aligned, to address these learning needs which more than 2/3 of those surveyed reported.
