Health Care Assistant – Vaccination and Immunisation Update (Study Day)

Including an update on adult influenza, nasal influenza, pneumococcal, shingles vaccines and Vitamin B12 injections.

Who it is for:

The study days are suitable for Health Care Assistants (HCA) who work in General Practice or the Community who have previously completed a vaccination and immunisation 2-3 day basic training course.

Overview of content:

  • Current issues in vaccination
  • Recent epidemiology
  • Any relevant changes to the National Immunisation Schedule/relevant legislation
  • Anaphylaxis recognition and management
  • Review of current practice and identification of areas for improvement
  • Flu vaccination
  • Q&A session for commonly encountered problems in practice

What it is about:

This study day is based on the National Minimum Standards and Core Curriculum for Immunisation Training of Health Care Support Workers produced by Public Health England 2015.

The study day provides the HCA with the tools and information to maintain their competency in immunisation. The study day incorporates the professional, legal and public health issues alongside the clinical skill of vaccination.

How it Enhances Practice:

This study day has been designed to assist the HCA to maintain the requisite knowledge and skills to perform vaccinations. Reflection and competency has been incorporated into the study day to ensure patient safety and development of a competent practitioner.

Pre-course requirement:

You must be a HCA level 3 or level 4 working in either the community or General Practice setting who has previously undertaken a 2-3 day basic vaccination and immunisation training course for HCA’s.

This consists of one study day
