Neonatal Health Assessment and Diagnostic Reasoning (SNM648)

Who is it for?

This module is aimed at trainee ANNPs as part of the MMedSci ANNP programme.  It is also available to neonatal health care practitioners after completion of the stand alone SNM647 Biosciences in Neonatal Care module should you wish to develop your knowledge and practical skills in advanced neonatal health assessment and diagnostic reasoning.

What is it about?

The aim of this module is to build upon the learning in SNM 647 to enable the neonatal practitioner to gain mastery in neonatal health assessment and diagnostic reasoning across a range of clinical situations within the neonatal environment.

How does it enhance practice?

In order to advance your role in the care of neonates and begin the process of mastery in advanced neonatal nursing you will be undertaking the study of neonatal health assessment and diagnostic reasoning at post graduate level (level 7). This module will help to support the acquisition of knowledge that will underpin the development of clinical skills commensurate with advanced neonatal nursing.

It is also an excellent route to continuing advanced practice development for those ANNPs who would like to refresh their clinical practice and theoretical knowledge in health assessment and diagnostic reasoning.

It is possible to complete SNM 647 and SNM 648 if you wish to enhance your neonatal skills at the bedside. This module requires evidence of written support that you will have a clinical supervisor to support assessment of clinical assessment skills.

Mode of assessment

Knowledge gained relating to this module will be assessed using observed structured clinical examination (OSCE) stations and an assessed record of heath assessment and diagnostic reasoning across 4 modes of assessment spanning the healthy to critically ill neonate.
