Profile

Sayo is a professor of Hosei University in Tokyo, Japan. She gained her Ph degree in sociology from Tokyo University in 2004 with a thesis in sociology of caring and supporting, based on the interviews to nurses and volunteers in the Great Hanshin Earthquake.

Sayo happened to meet and be attracted by supporting activities for people with learning difficulties and autism in the suburb of Tokyo fifteen years ago. By then, she had participated in these activities and tried to describe the difficulties of them and how we could support them based on the social model of disabilities. And now, she is interested in self-advocacy groups in the UK and the current conditions of community care for people with learning disabilities and autism.
