European Society of Cardiology Research Fellowship
Dr Javaid Iqbal, Clinical Lecturer in Cardiovascular department, has been awarded a Research Fellowship from the European Society of Cardiology. The award was made at the annual meeting of ESC at Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Javaid will spend a period of his Fellowship at the Thorax Centre, Rotterdam, working under the supervision of Professor Patrick Serruys. He will be working on intra-coronary imaging to study atherosclerotic plaques and models of risk-stratification for patients undergoing cardiac interventions.
Javaid recently published a review in Nature Reviews Cardiology based upon his interest in this field concluding that the heart team must balance the wishes of the patient, the approved guidelines and clinical symptoms when determining the most appropriate revascularisation therapy.
