Sheffield Researcher Given Major Role in the European Society for Cardiology
A research scientist at the University of Sheffield, Professor Paul Evans, has been elected to chair the 'Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology Working Group' for the European Society of Cardiology from 2016 to 2018. This group includes several hundred cardiologists and scientists from Europe who are working together to understand the processes that cause hardening of arteries (atherosclerosis), a disease that causes angina, heart attack and stroke.
The Working Group on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology serves as a platform to translation of innovative approaches into clinical applications to improve patient care. It provides a vibrant environment for talented young scientists and cardiologists to flourish, to meet colleagues and learn of new and exciting scientific ideas.
Sheila Francis, Head of Department of Cardiovascular Science commented “this is a great honour for Paul and an excellent opportunity to influence and spread knowledge of atherosclerosis and vascular biology in basic and clinical cardiology in Europe”.
